My name is Krissi. I am a stay at home mom of two boys who keep me very busy. I used to think I knew what busy was until I had children. Now, all I accomplish everyday outside of diapers and meals and chasing littles is completed during naptime. Welcome to my naptime project.
I am also a certified teacher with seven years of teaching experience in the SC public schools. I have taught at all levels and in a variety of different schools to students across the ability spectrum. I do plan to eventually return to the public school classroom and I feel as if my time at home will make me a better (and more appreciative) teacher.
Now, I am grateful to be teaching and elementary art class with an area homeschool group. It is a small class of around ten students from fourth to sixth grade. These kids have a mixed background with art from very limited art classes to many years taking art lessons. They also have a variety of artistic, math, and reading ability levels. Sound familiar to you public school related arts teachers? However, all are sweet, energetic students with a love of doing new things and socializing with their neighbor. I hardly can ask a question before I have ten energetic answers. I love these kids and am looking forward to another school year with them.
We meet once a week for an hour and a half. The rest of the week they complete assignments at home. This year we will be exploring the elements and principles of design, the language of art. We also spend a good deal of time on art history and discussing significant artists and their works of art. Students have access to computers and internet at home. Through this presentation to you, I am exploring ways to integrate dynamic media into this homeschool class so I am be more in touch with my students through the week and enrich and deepen their learning. I am glad to have you join me on this journey...
